The Crocodile: Signature of ORLOV

Every great jewelry house has an animal it owns. For ORLOV, the high jewelry house born in Monte Carlo in 2011, that animal is the crocodile. Its skin, its spikes and the slow power of its movement shape the house's signature collection, Croco Dream, and its most important high jewelry creations.

A sculpture at the Musée d'Orsay

The Croco Dream collection was born from a moment of revelation when Angela Orlov, Creative Director and co-founder, saw for the first time Les Nubiens, the sculpture by Louis-Ernest Barrias exhibited at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. In that instant, inspiration took form.

The crocodile became a vision, a timeless symbol of strength, grace and mystery. Its skin and spikes inspired a detailed and precious reinterpretation, transformed into contemporary and wearable designs. Launched in 2018, Croco Dream made the crocodile the house animal of ORLOV.

Each creation captures the creature’s essence through texture, form and movement, revealing extraordinary high jewelry creations.

"The skin's pattern, the spikes, and the fluid curves of the crocodile's body are all elements that inspire our designs, resulting in pieces that are both fierce and sophisticated." — Angela Orlov, Co-Founder and Creative Director

Les Nubiens by Louis-Ernest Barrias at the Musée d'Orsay, the inspiration for the ORLOV crocodile

The spirit animal

Inspired by Ernest Barrias' sculpture Les Nubiens at the Musée d'Orsay, the crocodile became the emblem of ORLOV. A symbol of strength, protection and enduring power, it remains the maison's guardian creature and most distinctive signature.

Why the crocodile

The crocodile is one of the oldest living creatures on earth. It is patient, precise and immensely strong, yet its skin is among the most refined textures in nature. That tension between strength and refinement is the ORLOV aesthetic: bold, sensual and sculptural.

It is also a Riviera animal by temperament. Monte Carlo pairs natural drama, the rock and the sea, with absolute polish. The crocodile carries the same contrast, which is why it became the emblem of a house born there.

Croco Dream: one animal, three expressions

Croco Dream is ORLOV's signature collection. It translates the crocodile into three lines, each devoted to one part of the animal.

  • SKIN — the scales. Geometric pavé of diamonds and Colombian emeralds recreates the pattern of crocodile skin in precious metal.
  • SPIKE — the ridge along the crocodile's back, rendered as rows of diamond-set spikes in rings, cuffs, chokers and hoops.
  • CARESSE DE CROCO — the whole animal. Crocodiles that wrap the ear, the wrist or the neck.

The Crocodile Earrings. 552 white diamonds totalling 6.08 carats, with marquise Colombian emerald eyes — the pair Jennifer Lopez wore to Elle's Women in Hollywood celebration in Los Angeles in December 2023.

Emerald eyes

The emerald is the soul of ORLOV. Its vibrant green hue inspired the signature color of the maison, and the emerald lies at the heart of ORLOV's creations as a symbol of wisdom, prosperity and rare beauty.

ORLOV's crocodiles look out through Colombian emeralds. The eyes are marquise-shape Colombian emeralds, selected as matching pairs so that both eyes share the same deep, warm green — the colour that brings the animal to life against white diamonds and gold.

Made in Valenza

Handcrafted in Valenza, Italy, with precision and soul, every creation is a testament to mastery, passion and timeless savoir-faire. Valenza is the historic centre of Italian high jewelry. Gold is shaped by hand to follow the curve of the crocodile's body; diamonds are set scale by scale so the surface moves like living skin. ORLOV uses natural diamonds and natural precious gemstones only.

Worn by

The ORLOV crocodile has appeared on some of the most photographed women in the world. Penélope Cruz wore CARESSE DE CROCO earrings on the January 2024 cover of Vanity Fair Italia. Jennifer Lopez wore the Crocodile earrings in Los Angeles in 2023 and CARESSE DE CROCO during Paris Haute Couture Week in July 2026. See the full red carpet archive and press coverage.
